Delta CSR mangrove reforestation

Delta Thailand's participation in the Let's Zero Together (Mangrove Reforestation) event is part of the company's commitment to driving industries toward carbon neutrality and achieving net zero by 2050. The urgency of addressing climate change is highlighted by the IPCC Special Report, which notes that global temperatures have already risen by approximately 1.1°C above pre-industrial levels and could increase by 1.5°C as early as 2030 if current trends persist. This temperature rise contributes to the melting of polar ice caps and glaciers, leading to rising sea levels and significant risks such as more frequent and severe weather events, disruptions to food and water supplies, and loss of biodiversity. Mangrove forests play a critical role in combating climate change, serving as significant carbon sinks. Research published in the ESA Journals shows that global mangroves have a net ecosystem productivity of 109.1 Tg C/year, with approximately 33.9 Tg of carbon accumulating in soil and 58.5 Tg in woody biomass annually. Despite some carbon losses due to tidal exchanges, mangroves remain essential for climate mitigation, underscoring the importance of preserving and expanding these ecosystems to prevent catastrophic climate consequences.
