Ministry of Industry and Delta Announce 2023 Angel Fund for Startups Award Winners and 5,000,000 THB in Funding

Bangkok, Thailand, September 29, 2023-Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL. joined hands with the Ministry of Industry (MOI) and the Department of Industrial Promotion (DIProm) to host the Delta Angel Fund for Startups 2023 awards ceremony. This year, the Ministry of Industry organized the Industry Fair to promote sustainable development. Both events were held at Delta’s head office with Delta awarding a total of 5,000,000 baht in corporate sponsorship funds to 10 teams with 1,000,000 baht going to the 1st Prize winner team BioNext.

At the event, Mr. Bainoy Suwanchatree, Director-General of the Department of Industrial Promotion, and Mr. Jackie Chang, Delta Thailand President, congratulated the final ten teams on completing the competition. “Over the years, Delta is encouraged to see significant progress in both the quality of participating teams and the diversity of businesses represented. This is a clear indication that the Delta x DIProm Angel Fund has established itself as a well-recognized and respected event for startups and SMEs in Thailand. Delta is honored to be a part of this impactful initiative,” Mr. Chang said.

The Ministry of Industry and Delta then presented Angel Fund for Startup certificates and Delta awarded sponsorship funds to ten prize-winning teams. The First Prize team received 1,000,000 baht and other top prize teams received from 850,000 Baht to 100,000 Baht in sponsorship funds.

This year, Delta offered 5,000,000 baht in total funding and many team’s prize funds increased significantly. Since 2022, Delta has increased individual team funding to attract more Thai startups to join the Angel Fund and provide even more value to the local market and society.

The 10 prize-winning teams for Delta Angel Fund for Startup 2023 are:

1. First Prize: BioNext
Project: A patented technology that can reduce GHG emissions by converting nata de coco waste to a natural food stabilizer and eliminating combustion waste removal processes.
2. Second Prize: PAPA PAPER
Project: A unique recycled paper with fire resistant, water repellent and anti-fungal properties and strong enough for packaging material.
3. Third Prize: BrainTeazer
Project: One of the few solutions in the world that can convert a wide variety of food waste into polymer for biodegradable plastics used in applications from construction to packaging.
4. Fourth Prize: WhiteTiger
Project: A no-waste product that converts tiger peanuts to milk and uses shells for packaging. Tiger peanuts are easily grown non-deforestation local crops and are a cheaper ingredient.
5. Fifth Prize: OneTenPlus
Project: A local modular highly customizable product integrated into Industrial Automation for IoT.
6. Sixth Prize: Aquatrek Solution
Project: A locally developed and certified hydrotherapy machine for pets and humans with access via a user-friendly app.
7. Seventh Prize: NOVA
Project: A locally developed solar micro inverter with comparable features to established brands and allows third-party program integration not available in most other brands.
8. Eighth Prize: SENOVATE AI
Project: A solution using sensors, IoT and AI to monitor cows for health and reproduction management.
9. Ninth Prize: BrainXSolution
Project: A solution to rehabilitate brain trauma patients with a neural simulation that also assists in upper limb rehab. Doctors can use it to treat multiple patients at the same time online.
10. Tenth Prize: Asta A
Project: A fully integrated solution for algae cultivation from designing reactor systems and production (pilot to commercial scale) to selective breeding to match customer needs.

Throughout the year, Delta supported Angel Fund for Startup teams with technical and business training to develop their business proposals into commercial products and solutions. In 2023, program activities include a business camp with tutoring in a progressive 6-step model. After the camp, teams competed in a Hackathon and two Pitching rounds. Finally,10 winning teams from the 45 original teams were selected by the fund committee with combined scores from the Hackathon and Pitching rounds.

Delta and the DIProm launched the Delta Angel Fund in 2016 to develop local talent and incubate startups in the innovative industry sector to support the Thailand government’s development policies. This year’s competition projects are related to the Bio-Circular-Green Economic (BCG) Model and ESG that support Thailand’s shift to a low-carbon society with a new green economy for sustainability.

By 2023, Delta has provided over 28 million baht of funding to almost 200 top winning teams to support the commercialization of smart industrial and energy-related products in the Thai market. The Delta Angel Fund for Startups is a key pillar in local innovation and Thailand 4.0 development.
