Delta, BOI and KMITL Join Hands to Open 2nd Delta Power Electronics Lab for Student Training and R&D in Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand, November 30, 2023 - Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL. opened its second Delta Power Electronics Lab located at the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Labkrabang (KMITL), Faculty of Engineering, Electronics Department. The new Delta Power Electronics Lab is added to the first Delta lab opened in 2022 at King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) and is part of the Thailand Board of Investment's (BOI) merit-based incentives measures.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Jackie Chang, Delta Thailand President, said, “Delta has provided 5.3 million THB in equipment and facilities to our two Delta Power Electronics Labs and our world-class Thai R&D managers are directly supporting the setup and training. Around 60 students joined our new Delta Power Electronics Lab at KMUTNB in its first year. We welcome Thai students to join our new state-of-the-art lab here and begin on an exciting journey into the world of power electronics.”

In addition, Dr. Komsan Maleesee, President of KMITL; Mr. Narat Rujirat, Executive Director of the Electrical and Electronics Institute (EEI); Mr. Suthiket Thatpitak-Kul, Acting Senior Executive Investment Advisor of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI); Dr. Poolsak Koseeyaporn, Vice President of the Office of National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO) were among the dignitaries who participated at the milestone event for Thailand 4.0 talent and industry development.

Mr. Suthiket Thatpitak-Kul, Acting Senior Executive Investment Advisor of the BOI, said, “In the first nine months of 2023, the electrical and electronics manufacturing industry applied for investment promotion in 171 projects or 11% of total projects with value up to 208,288 million baht or 40% of total investment. These projects are expected to begin production in the next three years and require more than 10,000 personnel. Therefore, this lab will be beneficial in training skilled personnel to support the growth of Thailand’s electronics industry. The BOI appreciates Delta’s contribution and commitment to supporting the skill development of the Thai workforce, especially Thai engineers. We also recognize that Delta’s technology transfer has helped advance the capabilities of many Thai industrial sectors.”

Delta Power E Lab

The Delta Power E Lab Project is in collaboration with the BOI and aims to promote collaboration with key companies in Thailand to raise the level of technical skills among local engineering talents. The Delta Power Electronics Labs also provides Thai engineering students with world-class testing facilities to develop power electronics and train them in advanced skills. In addition, the labs serve as Thai industry-academic collaboration and innovation centers for local research activities that will facilitate the sharing of know-how and ideas between Delta and partners like KMITL.

Since 2016, Delta has worked with KMUTNB and KMITL as a partner in the Delta Automation Academy which includes top universities like Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and King Mongkut's University of Technology campuses in North Bangkok and in Thonburi, Mahidol University and Burapha University.
