Delta’s mission statement, “To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow,” focuses on addressing key environmental issues such as global climate change that will impact the next generations. This is why children’s rights are extremely important to Delta Thailand’s business.
In Part 3 of our series on Delta Thailand’s sustainable development (SD) we take a closer look at how our SD Team’s work helped Delta receive “Leader” rank in the 2020 Global Child Forum and Boston Consultant Group Southeast Asia corporate benchmark earlier this year.
Supporting Thailand’s Children
In addition to our effort to drive green manufacturing, we also follow Delta Electronics’ CSR direction to educate children to carry on our responsibility as stewards of the planet. Delta Thailand’s outstanding CSR performance, our efforts to communicate sustainability and our large market capital within the Stock Exchange of Thailand position us a leader in the Thai industry.
Since 2018, we have engaged with UNICEF Thailand to support children’s rights in the country. UNICEF recommended that we join the Global Child Forum and Boston Consulting Group study: State of Children’s Rights and Business 2020 Southeast Asia Benchmark.
Why the Global Child Forum
Delta Thailand’s SD Team always carefully considers the impact of each SD performance assessment and how it will help us fulfill our corporate mission. After many years of assessment and recognition in energy-saving innovation and environmental protection, we felt it was time to measure our performance in creating a better tomorrow for the children of Thailand.
With over 30 years of operations in Thailand, Delta has provided opportunities for education and an improvement living environment to children in our communities. Delta Thailand prides itself in its unique leadership role in championing social issues including human rights, women empowerment and children’s rights. Delta Thailand continues to demonstrate its commitment to humanistic values with many pioneering initiatives in the country and within the Delta Group.
Founded in 2009 by the Swedish Royal Family, Global Child Forum is a leading forum for children’s rights and business dedicated to innovative thinking, knowledge-sharing and networking. The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) is a global management consulting firm and the world’s leading advisor on business strategy. Engaging in this joint study would give us valuable insights into how we perform in child rights aspects compared with some of the biggest companies in the region.
Participating in the 2020 Global Child Forum Benchmark
As part of our assessment, the Delta Thailand SD team answered questions and provided evidence to prove our company policy and commitment to safeguarding children’s rights in our operations and value chain. Delta’s Statement of Commitment to Children’s Rights Policy is a part of our corporate policy and we strictly follow all Thai labor law and international industry standards including the RBA, ISO26001, ILO and UNSDGS.
We also reported Delta’s proactive actions to raise awareness on energy and environment conservation among elementary school students near our head office through our Delta Energy Education Program (DEEP). The DEEP set a target of 42,000 training hours from 2016 to 2023. By the end of 2018, we had already far exceeded our targets for both student training hours and employee participation hours. Students in the program annual participation survey have a satisfaction rate of over 90%.
Finally, we outlined our actions during COVID-19. This includes pausing our DEEP and university automation academy and implementing prevention measures for our annual Northern Thailand Scholarships program. Besides children, we also work to protect employees who are parents during the COVID-19 pandemic. These measures include mask distribution, prevention education and information, temperature control, disinfection and social distancing measures with partitioning at the workplace.
People are at the heart of Delta Thailand’s business and our mission for a better tomorrow makes protecting and educating children in our communities a key to our sustainability. As part of our continuous improvement in SD, Delta Thailand is preparing to integrate children’s rights as a business principle in our corporate Human Rights Policy.
